As devoted fans, we are aware of how cruel and heartbreaking anime deaths can be. From our favorite mentor Jiraya to a genius savior Lelouch and from the greatest dad Maes Hughes to our favorite violinist Kaori, we have had to say our goodbyes to some of the most wonderful characters ever. This unchanging trend of agonizing deaths has continued in recent years, as many gems yet again were taken away from us. I have compiled a list of The 5 latest saddest deaths.
Before we get started, do keep in mind that this list will have a lot of spoilers.
5. NIGHTEYE FROM MY HERO ACADEMIA
Togata wasn’t the only one left permanently scarred by his mentor’s death.
Nighteye was unfortunately left fatally wounded while fighting overhaul. His death showed how fragile and unpredictable life can be. He foresaw Midoriya’s demise only to be proven wrong just a few minutes later. Not only was his death memorable but also a lesson for all of us to learn.
4. KYOJORU KENGOKU FROM DEMON SLAYER
Demon Slayer has remained an intense masterpiece and carried on the legacy in its movie as it threw yet another unexpected saddening death at us.
Tanjiro left with the Hashira Rengoku on a mission to explore some mysterious deaths, unaware that Akaza, a higher-grade demon would attack them. Tanjiro and his friends are able to survive the attack of this powerful demon only because of the amazing powers of the Flame Hashira.
3. ASH LYNX FROM BANANA FISH
Despite its dark and gritty theme banana fish managed to gather a lot of fans, and the protagonist, Ash lynx, was a huge reason for it.
His character can be described easily using the word, “sad.” We wanted nothing but happiness for him. He suffered things more than what a normal person would in their entire life span which pretty much meant he had lived his life and that explains why he had to suffer such an early demise. Nonetheless, his death was a huge shock and could easily induce a soaring amount of tears.
2. GUGU FROM TO YOUR ETERNITY
To your eternity brought us numerous painful moments that teared us up but nothing beats Gugu’s death.
We watched Gugu grow up and evolve as a person, he felt like home and a close friend. His character especially grew on me and his death to this day seems very unfair. Till his last breath, he stayed courageous and displayed how kind, affectionate, and brave his soul is. Gugu’s character perfectly embodied the phrase “pretty is on the inside.”
1. SASHA FROM ATTACK ON TITAN
Speaking of characters that we watched grow up and earn a solid spot in our hearts, how can we forget Sasha?
Attack on Titan is known for its gruesome and heart-wrenching deaths. Recently, in its latest season, one of the major deaths in the season was a devasting one, as our favorite Potato girl gets killed off in the anime. Although her death was painful, it did mark a dramatic change of tone in the anime and kickstarted a fresh theme. Nonetheless, she will forever be remembered and missed.
