Elon Musk made a significant announcement on Wednesday, unveiling the establishment of a new artificial intelligence (AI) company named xAI. With plans to rival ChatGPT, Musk aims to bring advancements in AI capabilities.
xAI, as stated on its website, will collaborate closely with companies such as X (Twitter), Tesla, and others to drive progress toward their mission. The company's primary goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the universe, echoing Musk's previous language regarding his AI ambitions.
While Musk was an early supporter of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, he later criticized the company for implementing safeguards to prevent biased or sexist responses from the chatbot. Musk expressed concerns about training AI to be “woke,” asserting that falsehoods could be detrimental.
During an interview with Tucker Carlson in April, Musk hinted at his plans for a new AI venture called TruthGPT. Describing it as a “maximum truth-seeking AI” focusing on comprehending the universe, Musk emphasized his concerns regarding the potential destruction caused by AI.
Despite limited information about xAI's mission, the website indicates active recruitment efforts. Notably, the current team displayed on the website comprises all male members.
Meanwhile, Twitter, which Musk acquired for $44 billion in October, faces an uncertain future with the launch of Meta's rival app, Threads. Meta's app garnered over 100 million sign-ups within a week, while reports surfaced regarding a decline in Twitter's usage.
Musk's involvement with Twitter has been marked by controversy, including staff reductions, policy changes, and provocative statements that have alienated some users and advertisers.
In addition to Twitter, Musk leads several other influential companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
