Blizzard has exciting news for gaming enthusiasts as it plans to offer some of its beloved games on Steam. The PC storefront will soon welcome a selection of Blizzard titles, and the first game to make the leap is Overwatch 2.
In their announcement, Blizzard expressed their commitment to supporting Battle.net while also aiming to break down barriers and make their games more accessible to players everywhere.
OW 2 will debut on Steam on August 10th, just in time for the anticipated Overwatch 2: Invasion event, which introduces thrilling PvE story missions.
Steamers, as they are fondly called, will need to connect Overwatch 2 to a Battle.net account, but they will enjoy all of Steam's conveniences, such as the friends list and achievements.
While more Blizzard games are on the horizon for Steam, only Overwatch 2 has been confirmed so far. However, Blizzard promises to share more game announcements “when the time is right.”
Notably, OW 2 was chosen as Blizzard's ambassador to Steam, likely as part of their efforts to boost player engagement and investment. The recent quarterly earnings release hinted at a decline in engagement, making this move to Steam a strategic decision to revitalize interest in the game.
